➀ Overview
In many cultures, certain animals carry deep symbolic meanings. Therefore, I decided to create illustrations using animal characters for the labels of Koháry Winery (Egerszalók). These animals are meant to reflect the unique qualities and characteristics of each wine.
➁ Why white tiger, goldfish and pheasant?
White tiger – Rare and special, just like Retur wine. The mutation responsible for their white color occurred in the Bengal tiger population.
Fish – The symbol of wealth, luck, and prosperity in many cultures. In Tibetan culture, the goldfish represents the fortunate nature of all living beings, symbolizing life force (prana) and the flow of spiritual energy (nadi). The high quality of this wine is as promising as the sight of a goldfish.
Pheasant – Noble appearance for a noble wine. Turan is a historic region of Central Asia and the national bird of Northern Turkestan is the turkestan pheasant. There is even a Turanian idea, which posits that Hungarians belong to the Turanian ethnic group. This wine, with its fresh, floral notes is as striking as a turkestan pheasant.
